Hired Isn't Site-Ready: Closing the Gap Between the Offer and the Gate

A shutdown crew of contractors is due on site Monday. By Friday afternoon, some have finished the online induction and some haven't. A handful of high-risk tickets are sitting in an inbox as PDFs. The gate list is a spreadsheet someone emailed midweek.

Monday morning, the bus pulls up. The supervisor has two options: hold people at the gate while records are chased, or let them through and sort it out later. Neither is good. Both happen.

Hiring a worker and having a worker ready to work are two different things. The gap between them is where time, money and compliance get lost.

Readiness is a chain, not a checkbox

A worker is site-ready when every link holds: inducted, trained for this site, assessed as competent, credentials current, and authorised at the gate. Most organisations manage each link well on its own. The trouble starts in the handover between them.

A licence doesn't cover the site link either. WorkSafe WA reminds employers they still have a duty to give workers site-specific and machinery-specific training, whatever licence they hold (WA Government). The ticket gets someone to the gate. Readiness is what you prove after that.

Where readiness breaks down

  • Induction done, evidence missing. A completion date with nothing behind it to show who did it or what they understood.

  • Tickets on file, expiry unknown. Credentials stored as attachments, checked once at onboarding and never again.

  • Competency assumed. A worker signed off at another site is treated as signed off at yours.

  • Two systems, two truths. Training records say one thing. The gate list says another.

  • Contractors on the outside. Employees sit in the LMS. Contractors sit in email threads and shared folders.

Each gap looks small. Together they mean nobody can answer a simple question with confidence: is this person ready to work here, today? For more on why separate tools create these gaps, read Workforce Readiness and Compliance: Why One Platform Beats a Patchwork.

How LAAMP gets every worker site-ready

Inducted before they arrive.Digital inductions run on any device, online or offline, so workers finish them before the bus leaves, not in a crib room on day one.

Trained and assessed with evidence. Practical assessments and VOCs are captured with photo, video and signatory evidence, so competence is shown, not assumed.

Verified as the right person.LAAMP AI confirms the person completing an assessment matches the worker on record, and flags outside help or repeated guessing.

Credentials tracked, not filed. Licences and tickets sit against the worker with automated expiry alerts. Transferable skills passports carry verified credentials across sites and projects.

Authorised at the gate. ENTRII links site access to the same worker record. Turnstiles, boom gates and digital attendance only let through people who are approved, authorised and ready for the areas they're entering.

Visible in real time. Dashboards show readiness across employees, contractors and visitors, with a full digital audit trail behind every record.

Four questions to ask before your next mobilisation

  • Could you confirm, right now, which of next week's workers are site-ready?

  • If a ticket expired overnight, would your gate know before the worker arrived?

  • Do employees and contractors sit in the same record, or in two different systems?

  • If an auditor asked tomorrow, could you show evidence, or only a completion date?

If the answers rely on someone checking a spreadsheet, readiness is being managed by memory.

What changes when readiness runs on one record

Supervisors stop chasing paperwork at the gate. Contractors arrive inducted and verified. Expiries are flagged before they become a stand-down. When an auditor or regulator asks, the evidence is already there.

Thiess runs LAAMP across 39 sites globally. In its Australian operations, the business case recorded 232,659 hours saved per year across 10,500 users, with compliance improved to 95% (LAAMP and Thiess). These results come from Thiess's Australian operations and will vary by organisation.

Ready means proven

Workforce readiness isn't a feeling on Monday morning. It's a record you can show. LAAMP brings induction, training, verification, credentials and site access into one platform, so your whole workforce is trained, verified and compliant.
